what man can do?
July 16th, 2009Who really am I? Sometimes I wonder how things are made and the reason why men exist. I tried to find for the answers but unfortunately, the reasons are still unclear. Man… Man… Man… Can I do something to make these mysteries be revealed?
Man towers above all creatures on earth. He has the best brain. The man may shine as bright as the stars through his abilities. He has the unique talent that made him incomparable to all creatures. The lion and the tiger may be stronger, they may kill him and even make him a dinner, but by his mental power, he conquers them. The eagle may surpass him in flight and sight, but by his reason, man soars higher and sees clearer, deeper and further. Almost all the things that we see and use are because of man’s intellectual power. it seems that this intellectual power is limitless to man. Especially, modern man. But the fact is, man cannot comprehend his physical world as modern scientists inform us that the physical universe abounds in mysteries.
Lots of questions are playing in our minds. Why and how did we exist? what is the beginning of everything? Who created us? Is there really a creator? then, how did he exist? even the greatest philosopher and the most intellectual individual cannot answer these questions. No one can explain either.
It is literally and scientifically true that a single grain of sand and a raindrop are packed with mysteries enough to baffle the human mind. Now, how can a man who cannot comprehend one single grain of sand upon the seashore, expect to comprehend the Creator of the shore less Universe?
It is theological truism that man, by the mere dint of his own reason, cannot know God. Because God is not a physical object that he can grasp and make as his subject for his observation or analysis.
Hard as it is for modern man to stomach the fact that his reason is limited. Sometimes, we just need to believe. Because when we believe in our faith, there will be no more questions.
However, the problem is, on how man can have such faith. Problems, sufferings, pains.. These are the main reasons why man cannot have such faith. Problems make them selfish and vain. Sufferings looses their hopes. Pains make them harsh and hate the world.
I cannot question why man suffers this kind of stage. As they say, we are just human, and we have the characteristics of a human being. We are not perfect nor omniscient. We are fearful and weak. We are born emotional. Even we say we are strong, we can never deny the fact that we are still man. Not a God. Because we are imperfect in nature.
Obviously, my focus is on man’s intellectual capacity to comprehend the world and the other world as they call it. Then comes death. “EMOs” who are very popular specially to our young people who think that death is the answer to all problems. If we define death, we may have hundreds and thousands of negative notions. But can we have one good reason over the thousands of bad reasons why death is better than to live? =)
By and by, when we get up there,our faith turns to sight and many of the mysteries will vanish. Some may yet beyond our horizon, beyond our depth, on account of our creatureliness. For this is our human and creaturely destiny.
